the adventure of 2013!

Boy, 2013 sure was a year to remember... so many major life changes and accomplishments! Looking back at the highlights from the year, I still can't believe what a year we had!

In January, we put our deposit down at Creighton Dental School, not knowing where we'd eventually end up.In February, Spencer worked hard on submitting his military scholarship applications. Wow, that was sure a process neither of us ever want to repeat. In March, we decided that I should take the bar exam in Utah, knowing that if we ended up in Nebraska, I could transfer my results to that state. In April, I graduated from BYU Law School and Spencer graduated from BYU in Exercise Science!

In May, we took a 2 week trip to Orlando and the Caribbean, celebrating both of our graduations and our  2 year wedding anniversary. Let's just say, it was absolute heaven. Give me a beach AND Disneyworld AND the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and I could die of happiness!

In June, I turned 25, and turned on bar studying to full-force drink-through-a-firehose kind of information overload. In July, I took the Utah Bar exam! Biggest relief when that was over. We also took a trip to my favorite sunny town of California, San Diego. In August, we moved to Nebraska and Spencer turned the big 2.5. Spencer also started dental school and I accepted a job as in-house counsel for Fidelity National Title.
In September, we found out that Spencer had been awarded the 4 year scholarship with the Army for dental school. I can't even begin to describe the relief and gratitude we feel for this amazing opportunity.

In October, I found out that I passed the bar! Yipee!!

In November, we took a weekend whirlwind trip to Chicago for Thanksgiving and absolutely fell in love with that city!

In December, we went back to Utah and visited our friends and families back in Salt Lake after our first 5 months of living away. We loved every minute and can't wait till we get to see them all again.

2013 can go down in the books as the year of PATIENCE! Patience on waiting what dental school Spencer would end up at, patience on waiting to find out where we will be living for the next four years or even eight years, patience on waiting 8 MONTHS to hear if Spencer got the Army scholarship, patience on waiting on my bar results, patience on waiting to hear back from job applications.

If anyone knows me, they know that patience is not necessarily my strongest suit and I am a crazy planner who feels like my life is only in control if I have set plans. So not knowing what lay ahead of us what incredibly stressful for me. However, I just kept repeating to myself, it will all work out for the best, it will all work out for the best. And guess what, it DID! Everything didn't happen exactly as I had first planned, but all I can say is that looking back, I know that everything has worked out exactly how it should. We are right where we need to be at this point in our lives.  I am honestly SO grateful for everything that we have been blessed with this past year and am looking forward to whatever 2014 brings our way! Happy New Year!

2012 Recap: Better late than never!

2012 was an awesome adventure for Spence and I. The highlight of the year was probably Spence's acceptance to dental school. Spence worked so hard on his application, DAT, and interviews and I couldn't be more proud of him! He got into Creighton Dental School in Omaha, Nebraska. We will find out in a week his status with Roseman in South Jordan, so hopefully by the end of January we will know if we are moving just a few miles or a few hundred miles away! We will also be finding out if Spence got a scholarship from the Army or Navy. Hopefully this all works out soon, because I have to submit my bar application March 1...however, I need to know what state I will be applying to!

Right after the interview! Little did he know that that interview got him in!

Next up was Julie and Scott's wedding. These two are absolutely perfect for each other! It is seriously so awesome to have a married sister and new brother-in-law. They definitely bring a new energy to our family. Their wedding was BEAUTIFUL and was seriously the most perfect outdoor wedding I have ever seen. So classy but creative and so Julie!
Sisters!

My contribution...so proud :)
Trip-wise, Spence and I are saving up for our graduation extravaganza to Orlando and the Caribbean in May. We went on a few boating trips to Jordanelle and took one little weekend trip to Oregon and Sun Valley in 2012. I have always wanted to see Oregon and it did not disappoint! All of the rain created such a lush and green landscape, it was completely breathtaking. However, actually living in that rain would be another story, but what an awesome place to visit!

Multnomah Falls: Breathtaking!

Check out the moss on those trees! Something you NEVER see in Utah! I was in love!

Performing my bridesmaidly duties at Mel's wedding. So happy for her!
My poor Hyundai got crushed on University Avenue. I seriously hate that street! Even the police officer said he avoids in whenever possible. One little fender bender and this little guy was totaled!

Luckily we were able to get an awesome Pilot! What a great car!
Our holiday season was awesome as always. We spent the season up in Salt Lake and ate way too much delicious food. Highlights of the season had to be seeing Les Miserables, watching my mom get 7 feet of air while sledding and totally biffing it, sledding behind Dave's truck, double date the the Haslams, Christmas White-Elephant Party, watching Gracie get pulled in her first little red sled, and an indoor snowball fight with the Bevans, playing Times Up with both sets of families, and just relaxing after a long semester of school.

Literally he BEST game ever. Literally.

Beautiful Fossil Bag. Spence knows me too well!

2013 will be a year full of changes: graduation, a cruise, dental school, moving, the bar, and a real life job for me! While we don't know exactly what lies in store, I know 2013 will not disappoint in creating opportunities for many awesome adventures together! Happy New Year!

The adventure of the Spencer

Well I (Spencer), finally decided to dive into the whole blogging experience with a renewed attempt to both increase my writing ability, which has not see any daylight since my life has been consumed by chemistry, biology, and physiology classes, and to hopefully allow some of my fellow peeps and peepettes to see a side of me that they have never seen before. By that I mean to make a stamp on the Internet world that never is seen on Facebook, Twitter, or any of that crap that is consumed by many.   I, on the other hand, previously consumed things that were more worth my time such as video games and video games.  Yeah that's about it, exciting right?  With a recent pact with my inner soul to give up a few of my internal cravings for a controller and some Modern Warfare, I've decided to entreat our blog with a place that I can freely write what is currently on my mind for all of you to read.  I wouldn't say that my writings will entertain you or even bring you closer to what I think about each day, but rather I have always loved to write and haven't found a place to put them.

'Nuff said about that.  Mary currently is sitting in her usual position on the couch with a blanket wrapped around her a dozen or so times and a laptop that has a dual setup of Facebook/work.   Nine times out of ten, I am sitting right next to her watching an episode of pretty much anything.  Many of you probably know that Mary and I are a little bit on the TV junkie side of the couch, but who can blame you when there are so many awesome shows to watch.  Currently I decided to pick up where I left off on the 24 series because before my mission I only got through season four.  Since the beginning of my binge of 24, I have come to realize how much I hate President Logan.  I mean talk about the worst President ever.  (spoiler!) Why did they have to kill of President Palmer and keep Logan around.  Honestly, if the all-state guy ran for President right now, I'd vote for him.  After going cold turkey with video games, who wouldn't replace Modern Warfare with 24. Talk about replacing fire with fire.

I guess I won't talk about the dozens of shows that I am absolutely loving this season, but instead I'll turn my attention to more real events that our going on in our overly exciting time of our lives.  On the note of Valentines day, we decided to take advantage of our gift cards. Free dinner and movie, thank you very much!  Of course I have a little surprise for Mary, but it's nothing too special.  I think this Valentines day was pretty memorable just because of what Mary just barely did only thirty minutes ago.  Mary had just gotten home from an interview for the Education Law Journal board for next year.  I was in study trying to find some stuff for school and an electrician was in our kitchen fixing a couple outlets.  Well. she didn't know that he was in there and I hear her walk into the kitchen and say to who she thought was ME, "Happy Valentines Day!" in her typical goofy voice. I can only imagine her shock when she realized she just said that to a complete stranger!  I walk out in the hall and she is almost falling over laughing as she tries to explain how the electrician had looked at her like she was a crazy person when she had said that to him.  I had to go over and say sorry about my crazy wife to him so he wouldn't feel as awkward anymore.

Many of you probably know about the fun project going on in our basement.  Total destruction. Anyway, part of this project involves putting some new electrical in our kitchen, hence the electrician tonight.  Anyway for the past hour and a half, our power has gone on and off in our living room and finally the whole house went dark.  Some not so very nice words flew out of the electricians mouth as I heard a nice pop go off as it went dark.  About five minutes later, light finally came back on and a few more choice words erupted from the kitchen.  Man do I love construction!  I think a lot of it had to do with the already faulty electrical that is all over this house.  I love my plaster walls and moldy pipes!

With so many great things to talk about in exciting lives, I have to stop typing eventually and get back to more important things like homework with a mix of Alcatraz.  I love that show.  Anyway, many of you probably know that I am trying to get into dental school and recently learned about the Navy/Army scholarship program that allows you to to go to dental school with all expenses paid.  The drawback is that you have to serve in the Army/Navy for the amount of years that you are in dental school.  If anyone who actually reads this knows someone who has done this let me know what they thought of their experience it would be nice to know.

That's all I have to add in the first adventure of the Spencer...signing off.
